How Hydro Jetting Works

The process starts with a drain camera inspection. Before any jetting begins, we run a camera through the line to identify where the blockage is, what it’s made of, and whether the pipe is structurally sound enough to handle high-pressure cleaning. That step matters because jetting a damaged or collapsed pipe can make the problem worse.

Once the line is confirmed clear for service, we feed a high-pressure hose and nozzle into the pipe. The nozzle directs water streams forward to cut through blockages and backward to scour the pipe walls clean. This removes buildup across the full pipe interior rather than simply punching a channel through the center of a clog. The difference is significant: snaking restores flow but leaves wall buildup in place, which is why clogs return. Hydro jetting removes that buildup.

Unlike chemical drain cleaners, hydro jetting uses only water. No corrosive agents enter the pipe or the wastewater system. After jetting, we run the camera again to confirm the line is fully clear before we close out the job.

The types of blockages hydro jetting clears effectively include:

When Hydro Jetting Is the Right Call

The clearest indicator is a clog that returns within weeks or months of snaking. That pattern means wall buildup is reforming the blockage after the snake clears the center. Hydro jetting addresses the source rather than the symptom.

Grease-heavy drain lines are a strong use case in both residential kitchens and commercial settings like restaurants and food service facilities. Grease doesn’t form a discrete clog the way a solid obstruction does. It coats the pipe wall gradually until flow is restricted across the full diameter.

Older Milwaukee properties with clay or cast-iron lateral pipes are particularly well suited to hydro jetting. Those materials are prone to root infiltration at pipe joints and accumulate mineral scale over decades of use. Mechanical methods can clear a path, but high-pressure water cleaning removes buildup from the walls in a way that can extend time between service calls.

Multi-unit residential buildings and commercial properties with high-volume drain use can benefit from periodic hydro jetting as a maintenance measure rather than a reactive one.
